Sea Stay
Review
Having met with Sam Field Corbett, the owner of the Dublin and Galway Escape Boats, during research for my Top 100 Attractions on the Island of Ireland book, I happened to mention my other title — Top 100 Romantic Destinations on the Island of Ireland. Mr. Corbett became rather animated at the prospect of being featured and insisted I consider his “accommodation boats,” The Polaris Popcorn and The Lovely Laura Lucy, for inclusion. These boats sit alongside the escape boat in Galway. Given his background in high-profile maritime restoration projects, I agreed to take a look.
After being shown around by Carolina, a South American lady who was supposedly running operations there, but has since by her own admission, mysteriously vanished from the business. I agreed that the boats were quirky enough to feature. Mr Field agreed to the two small design fees and the artwork was duly designed and sent for approval and that’s when things took a rather weirdly bizarre turn.
Emails went unanswered and the design fee invoice went unpaid for many months. Calls were also ignored and most certainly not returned. Carolina, when eventually reached, offered no coherent explanation beyond saying she “no longer worked there,” despite answering the number still listed on their website, the very one for the boats themselves, see where I’m going here?
This evasive behaviour, coupled with complete disregard for professional courtesy, raises serious concerns. If this is how they treat someone endorsing their business, one shudders to think how a paying guest might be treated should something go wrong, or worse, if a refund were ever required. I’ll leave you to make up your mind as to whether or not to stay here!
