Scampston Hall & Gardens
Review
It becomes apparent on a visit to Scampston Hall & Gardens that it is one of the biggest hidden gems in Yorkshire’s "attraction crown”. The hall is still a family home (and has been for nigh on 300 years) so it is always best to check their website for their opening times. Now home to Christopher and Miranda Legard, Scampston Hall is one of the finest examples of a regency country home in North Yorkshire. The renowned Piet Oudolf is responsible for the garden design and says: “A garden is exciting for me when it looks good through the year, not just at one particular time. I want to go outside and for it to be interesting in all weather, in early spring and late autumn.”It is a tour not to be missed. We cannot end this review without endorsing Scampston’s wonderful ‘Garden Cafe’, and you don’t have to be a visitor to the hall or gardens to eat here.
