Mooragh Park
Mooragh Park was not always a park for it was built, but then its lake was not always a lake. In 1881, the Ramsey Town Commissioners bought a 200 acre tidal swamp. The Land was purchased for 1,200 pounds with the intent to build the site into a pleasure park. Six years later the site was opened to the public and included many of the sites it does today. The park and lake proved to be a great success for Ramsey, bringing visitors and tourists alike. Events were held there as they still are now and Mooragh remains a popular public gathering place for the island.

Review
Mooragh Park is one of those hidden gems you'll hear me talking about so many times throughout this book. Anywhere that is just as popular with the local residents as much as it is visitors visiting the locality has to be an attraction worth visiting. Entrance into the park is free but there are some small fees to pay for some of the attractions within, such as the canoeing, kayaking or sailing, you can also hire the boats on the parks lake. We have featured the café/ bistro in the park in our ‘Food for Thought' section just a few pages on, but if you would rather enjoy a picnic, then there is plenty of space with which to do that. All in all a visit to Mooragh Park was a memorable one for me, and that was coming to the end of the season, so you can see that a visit here will be one not to be missed.
