Family-owned and run for nearly three decades, the Meadowlands Hotel in Tralee is a shining example of how legacy and modern comfort can work hand in hand. Paddy and Peigí Mathúna, along with their daughters Siobhán and Bríd Ní Mhathúna, have poured their passion into creating one of the region’s finest hotels. No expense has been spared in bringing the property into the 21st century, yet it retains a welcoming, homely feel. Rooms offer every modern convenience, with standards that are anything but “standard,” alongside elegant suites and executive options, ideal for any trip purpose. The Meadowlands is also the trusted base for the annual Rose of Tralee, hosting the roses’ teams each year, a sure sign that this family-run gem is among the best.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

At the Meadowlands Hotel, the Mathúna family’s food ethos is as polished as their hospitality. Johnny Franks Lounge & Terrace, named after the owner’s uncle, serves a confident all-day bar menu: smart snacks, light plates and a surprisingly sumptuous dinner offering that respects seasonality. Provenance matters here and you taste it. When you want something a touch more formal, try the Terrace, where the pace slows and plates are plated with finesse. More in season, both rooms showcase superb local fish, landed nearby and supplied by the family’s own fish factory, traceable, ultra-fresh, and cooked with restraint. Service is warm, pacing is right, and prices feel fair. Honest ingredients, handled well, make this one of Tralee’s dependable, delicious addresses. Non residents welcome and highly recommended.
