McLoughlin’s Bar
Review
Not all McLoughlins of Mulranny is as it seems!
Unfortunately, despite us choosing McLoughlins of Mulranny in good faith, to endorse them as one of our chosen places to sleep and eat in the Co. Mayo chapter of my new Top 100 Attractions on the Island of Ireland book, not all is as it seems here, as things after my meeting with them took a rather disturbing twist.
It turns out both, Neville and Choo Yee, if that’s their real names, appear to be the lease holders of the business, despite telling me they own the building. They apparently according to them, also own a website development company; this, according to them, is their main business and the pub and accommodation are just a secondary business on the side. However, if you look at their latest website, I would use the term website developers with a pinch of salt.
When I was having a meeting with them, they seemed very plausible, they even offered to obtain the Irish version of my Top 100 Attractions domain name, this was agreed on the premise that they would transfer the details to us within a few days. I naively agreed to them doing this. However, in a very bizarre turn of events, and despite me asking them countless times over the past 7 months to actually transfer the domain name to us, they have deceivingly resorted to holding us to ransom for this domain name. They don’t return calls, emails or what’s app messages and seem to be getting some kind of kick out of this situation.
I think it’s important to inform you of this, as this accommodation and restaurant and the two gentleman running the place, are not quite what they seem. It is my high recommendation and personal opinion, that you avoid this business like the plague! Do not, I repeat, do not whatsoever pay for any accommodation up front, or by card over the phone and make sure you get everything in writing. If you are paying for anything to do with accommodation or food, it is my opinion that you should always use a credit card in person. Do not hand them any card details over the phone!
I have called several times and no matter which day I have called, they are allegedly never there. I’m also personally very disappointed with the owners, as I myself paid nearly £300.00 to stay here for a couple of nights and eat in their restaurant. If I had of known then what I know now, I would never of chosen them in the first place.
Avoid like the plague! You have been warned!
