Knockanree Garden
Created to provide a secluded haven of peace and tranquility, Knockanree Garden is modelled on a Japanese “stroll” garden and was designed to allow specimen trees and shrubs to flourish and to provide a safe and bountiful environment for whatever wildlife choose it for their home. This very diverse garden, while being the habitat for a large number of indigenous trees and plants, is also home to many foreign species which are rare in Ireland. Some areas are of a formal nature but for much of its 3.5 acres, nature is the architect. There are some interesting stone structures including a modern Dolmen, the Standing Epistle, the Moonstone and three Indian granite elephants. There is generous parking and partial disabled access. Dogs on leads are permitted. Knockanree Gardens is opened in aid of the Society for Poor People’s Development in Tamil Nadu, India.
Review
It is true that County Wicklow is renowned all over the world for being the garden of Ireland, but this just isn't down to the county. Dotted all over the county of Wicklow are some amazing and truly breathtaking gardens. Take Knocknaree for instance, this simple yet brilliant garden has been perfectly crafted by someone who not only appreciates a good garden, but by someone who truly respects his garden. As I walked around Knocknaree I knew that with every hectare, came devotion and discipline and both of these qualities are much needed to become a truly great gardener. It is very hard to explain in just one hundred and fifty words why a visit to Knocknaree is so special, so let me explain with just five, peace, tranquility, care, respect, passion. Each of these are what you will feel as you make your way around Harold Clarke's wonderful garden.
