Review
The Kelham Island Museum on the European Route of Industrial Heritage is found on a man-made island in the River Don, which has its origins in a diversion of the river to establish a mill race in the twelfth century. It houses an immensely interesting array of historical mechanical engineering feats like the Bessemer Converter, the most powerful steam engine ever built. One of only three remaining can be seen at the Kelham Island Museum. Interactive exhibits at the museum attract both children and adults. Visit Facebook for events that are to be hosted at the museum. You could even host your own wedding there at this unique venue. The Island Café Bar provides contemporary, delicious food and The Mill Owners Arms provides real ales and craft beers for refreshment. A visit to Sheffield is incomplete without making a day out of visiting this museum!
