Huntington Castle & Gardens
Visit Huntington Castle to step into another world. The 17th century castle is a treasure trove of historical architecture and objects, while the Yew Tree Walk, Lime Tree Avenue and water features are just some of the elements of Huntington’s delightful gardens and pleasure grounds. Located in Clongal, County Carlow, Huntington Castle was originally built by Lord Edmond in 1625 as a defensive garrison, and after its soldiers relocated, it was developed into a family home. Many generations of the family added various extensions and details, resulting in the creation of a truly unique and interesting building. Visit the gardens of Huntington Castle to get truly lost in nature. From the formal Par Terre gardens and charming ‘ wilderness’ area these original 17th Century gardens are one of only handful remaining in the country. The guided tour of the castle takes place on the hour, every afternoon May to September. The excellent tea rooms, gift shop, and adventure playground means its the perfect location for a family day out.
Accommodation
If you are looking for somewhere to stay with a difference, we can offer some fantastic accommodation packages. Huntington has a small number of historic guest rooms, all with original period features such as period furniturefour poster beds and oak panelling. Most rooms are en suite and each room has its own character and story to tell. We can offer catering for groups by prior arrangement - using fresh local produce where possible. We are also proud to recommend the award winning Sha Roe Bistro, which won Georgina Campbell's best chef award in Ireland. Sha Roe is situated at the bottom of the front avenue, beside Osborne's, a charming traditional Irish pub. Both are within a few minutes walk of the Castle, so no taxis required! Guests staying with us have full access to the gardens and estate, and we can also arrange activities or itineraries by prior arrangement.

Review
“A wondrous woven magic, in bits of blue and gold, a tapestry to feel and see, impossible to hold.” C. King.
Time spent at Huntington Castle in County Carlow, is like entering into a living tapestry, of rich and royal colours, that fill the senses with beautiful scenery, charming creatures and outstanding views. Much like the resident peacock, who can be seen strutting about the grounds: the 160 acres of stunning gardens offer a kaleidoscope of colours amongst its woodlands and farmlands, and there’s an interesting guided tour, which opens up the Castles’ historical past. Built in 1625, the structure was originally a ‘plantation castle’ used for defensive purposes, and now offers visitors a Garden & Woodland Playground, Tea Rooms & Gift Shop, a unique setting for weddings, but best of all: B&B offers the opportunity to actually stay in one of the opulent rooms, perfect for couples in. Step back in time within the astonishingly beautiful, immaculate rooms that will transport you into a world of exquisite luxury.
