Review

Some pubs simply serve food and drink, while others become part of a region’s history. Head O’The Road in Portadown belongs firmly in the latter category. Purchased by the Lawson family in 1932, with an inn reportedly occupying this site since the 1700s, this remarkable establishment is now proudly run by third generation custodian John Lawson. What I particularly admire is how effortlessly this pub blends centuries of tradition with modern hospitality, without ever losing its character. Stepping inside feels like entering somewhere that has gracefully moved with the times, while remaining wonderfully authentic. The food is exceptional, thoughtfully prepared and served in generous portions, while the genuinely warm atmosphere makes staying longer almost inevitable. Add an excellent outdoor seating area and a team who clearly understand hospitality, and you have everything I love about a proper Irish pub. An outstanding establishment, thoroughly deserving of our coveted Iconic Pub status.
