Glenavon Japanese Garden is a one acre garden, created over ten years, on the challenging clay Macemore soil, depicts the four seasons and is centred round a beautifully recreated Japanese pavilion. Stone lanterns, statues and other features accentuate this theme and a Liquidambar walk flanks one of the perimeters.There is also a craft shop.

County Wicklow is synonymous for being the Garden of Ireland and that maybe true, but to me, the whole of Ireland is made up of hundreds of gardens that then make up one big garden. Here in a County Wexford one of those gardens is that of Glenavon. As I rolled up the driveway and saw the wonderful bungalow which stood before me, I found it hard to realise where on earth this wonderful Japanese style garden could be, until I made my way round to the back of the garden with its owner Iris Checkett. In just one hundred and fifty words I cannot describe what I saw, but I will go as far as to say this has to be the smallest, biggest garden I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Iris has pulled off the impossible with this garden and my visit to her wonderful garden will stay with me for a long time.
