Dyfi Distillery
On the edge of Southern Snowdonia, and within Wales’ only UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, the Dyfi Distillery has achieved a cult reputation for producing tiny quantities of the finest quality gins which completely reflect their origins. Tradition combines with innovation in creating four uniquely crafted gins including a Dovey Native Botanical Gin called Pollination, with a distillation based on 20 different hand-foraged plant materials. All this is a culmination of brothers Pete and Danny Cameron’s experiences, which combine Pete’s decades of foraging experience and beekeeping in this special valley, with Danny’s many years of working with some of the world’s greatest winemakers and judging at some of the world’s most influential wine and spirit competitions. This is the only distillery to have won the prestigious Best British Gin trophy twice, and the only distillery in the world (at time of writing) to be accredited by the United Nations’ Support the Global Goals program for their approach to sustainability. Despite such attention, the family offer a warm and informal welcome visitors without appointment during their opening times.
Review
“How doth the little busy bee, improve each shining hour, and gather honey all the day, from every opening flower.” I. Watts.
Like bees round a honey pot: multi award-winning, Dyfi Distillerys’ artisan gin, has attracted the attention of television, tabloids, as well as top drink experts and celebrities, and has been glowingly described as; “seriously beautiful” by Judges in the Great British Food Awards. In 2020, drinks guru: Joe Wadsack was asked his opinion on this outstanding gin, which is crafted using the wild Welsh botanicals foraged in the UNESCO Dyfi Biosphere, and said; “ No one makes better tasting gin in my opinion in the whole of Great Britain.” The Dyfi Distillery, based at the Corris Craft Centre, near Machynlleth, was started up by brothers Pete and Danny Cameron, and now supplies many top Michelin starred restaurants. Although they don’t offer formal distillery tours, visitors are more than welcome to come and chat to the family, and browse around artistic storyboards, and take a peek through the large glass screen to where the gin-making magic takes place.
