Dead Centre Brewing
Review
All Fur Coat and no Knickers!
Dead Centre Brewing in Athlone, a once-promising hidden gem featured in my last edition of the Top 100 Attractions on the Island of Ireland book, has left me utterly disappointed, and I cannot, in good conscience, recommend it anymore. After initially encountering difficulty reaching them via phone, I was directed by his colleague to email or WhatsApp the owner, Liam Tutty, who was supposedly away on holiday but still checking messages. Sadly, that turned out to be false, as I never received a reply to my email or WhatsApp.
My next attempt to contact Liam was met with rudeness and a sense of abrupt disregard. Despite this, I did however gave him the benefit of the doubt, assuming it was due to his recent return from holiday. However, after driving two hours to meet him for a pre-arranged meeting, I was informed he had “forgotten” and couldn’t spare any time to speak to me, as he was busy brewing beer. He did however, after already being endorsed in the last book and being fully aware of the design fee agreed to being endorsed in the book again and the artwork design fee this time involved with the creating of his new artwork for the book, website & app.
To add insult to injury, after agreeing to feature the brewery in my latest edition and he signing the order form, Liam emailed us left us gobsmacked by proceeding to cancel the arrangement after receiving the artwork for approval. This unprofessional and rude behaviour is not something I encounter often, but it was a pattern that continued with Dead Centre Brewing as the situation escalated.
The final straw came when I politely explained that the signed order form held him accountable for the agreed payment, only to be met with further rudeness and obnoxious behavior. His lack of professionalism was glaring, and my patience wore thin.
Upon further investigation, I have discovered since, several other customers to their restaurant have shared similarly disappointing experiences, ranging from subpar bar service to inedible food. So, not only have I lost trust in the business’s word, but you’ll also likely save yourself the trouble of visiting. Save yourself the disappointment and steer clear of Dead Centre Brewing in Athlone. There are a number of other good breweries in Ireland, more worthy of your custom, this brewery I’m afraid in my opinion is most certainly not one of them. At a time where businesses of this nature are finding themselves in very choppy waters, you’d think they would take great care to steer their business in the right direction. Please remember, that these are my thoughts of this business and not yours. You are fully able to make up your own mind about any attractions endorsed in my book. My job is to merely guide you in doing so.
