Beaumaris Gaol
Review
“The grey rain curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass.” Tolkien.
A visit to Beaumaris Gaol & Courthouse is fascinating, sad, and just a little bit, spine tingling. As the dark, and scary world of the Victorian prison system, opens its horrific doorways to visitors, and invites us down into the nightmare of the condemned and punishment cells. Young visitors stand in shocked amazement, at the cruelty of the dreaded treadmill, as the brilliant guides walk and talk you through this dark story of times past. Attention to detail is exceptional, and includes costume performance, so walk, if you dare, along the terrifying poorly lit corridors. This attraction is an unmissable experience, as it’s much more than merely lifting a trap door to reveal a murky world beneath, it allows us perspective on the past, but also proves how truth is nearly always stranger than fiction.
