Aberystwyth Cliff Railway
Admire some of the most beautiful panoramic views of the country. Located at the North of Aberystwyth promenade, not only can you see the iconic Cardigan Bay, but if you are lucky, you might even see as many as 26 mountain peaks. What a breathtaking landscape! It is very rare to be able to enjoy such interrupted and exclusive views of Wales. If you want to admire your surroundings in even more detail, you can also use one of the world's biggest camera obscuras. Can you believe that it gives you a bird's eye vision? Meaning that you can take in 1000 square metres of the seascape and surrounding land. What better way to travel, than on this extraordinary train? It uses the longest funicular electric railway in Britain and it has centuries of history. Yes! It dates back to 1896. The visitor experience is outstanding and very memorable for all. An all-round great place of discovery, there are some truly exquisite historical displays too. For a little bit of fun, the children have their own play area, so you can either go and grab some memories in the on-site shop, or sit back and enjoy a home-made cake in the on-site cafe. *
Review
“Looking down through misty spheres, to visit wondrous lands, hewn through time, through endless years, green fields and golden sands.” V. Dohren.
Hop aboard the ravishingly radiant Aberystwyth Cliff Railway: and be transported by the longest cliff railway in Britain, right to the top of Constitution Hill, and just like a seabird, view more than 1000 square miles, in a 360 degree sweep through the world's largest Camera Obscura. The Camera is a popular re-creation of a Victorian amusement, and the massive 14 inch lens allows us to view moving colour pictures, just as the Victorians did. When you get to the top, there’s a newly refurbished Café selling scrumptious home-made snacks: delightful and immaculate, the Café makes a super place for a cream tea in the golden sunshine. There’s crazy golf at altitude to enjoy, as well as a fab play area for little ones, and a well stocked gift shop. Before you board this charming train, there’s a brand new car park for added convenience.
